ENERGY EFFICIENCY

Adopting a fabric-first approach to building design means developments are designed to first reduce energy demand and use, before looking to sustainable production of energy resources such as decarbonisation of heating supplies and the utilisation of renewable technologies. Adopting this approach embeds the London Energy Hierarchy: Be Lean, Be Clean, Be Green and Be Seen; ensuring that poor fabric design is not offset by bolt-on renewables; promoting comfortable buildings that eliminate fuel poverty, while measuring operational energy to capture building performance. Specifying buildings that range in energy demand from between 15Kwh/m2/yr to 40KWh/m2/yr is a good starting point.
